Kochi: Kerala Congress (M) supremo K M Mani and UDF government in the State faced a setback over the bar bribery case in the High Court as it criticized the government in strong language on Monday over the way the case was handled.

Criticising Mani, the court left it to the Finance Minister’s conscience to decide whether he wants to continue in the post.

Justice B Kemal Pasha, while delivering the verdict on an appeal by the Vigilance Additional DGP seeking to set aside the Vigilance Court order directing further probe against Mani in the bar bribery scam, said that it found no fault in Vigilance court's order for further probe in the case against the Minister.

Observing that Caesar’s wife should be above suspicion, Justice Pasha asked why the government was worried about further probe into the case. The court flayed the government for spending tax payers’ money to defend a minister who is facing corruption charges.
