Women to head 471 grama panchayats after local body polls

Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 471 of the 941 grama panchayats, 67 of 152 block panchayats and seven of 14 district panchayats will be headed by women after the ensuing elections to the local bodies.

Of the 471 grama panchayats reserved for women, 46 seats have been set apart for women in the scheduled caste while eight seats are for the scheduled tribes.

Elections to the local self-governing bodies in Kerala will be held on November. Dates of the elections are yet to be announced.

The current term of the local bodies expires on October 31.
