Now more estates witness Munnar model stir

Thodupuzha: The successful strike by women plantation workers in Munnar has inspired the workers of nearby estates who are now on the agitation path.
Thousands of labourers - mostly women – working in different plantations in Pallivasal and Suryanelli began a strike on Tuesday.
Thousands of labourers - mostly women - working in Upper Suryanelli, Panniyar, Pooppara and Anayirangal division estates owned by the Harrison Malayalam Plantation have started agitation demanding 20 pc bonus, betterment of dwelling places, basic amenities and hospital facilities.
The protest has got support from the main trade unions — INTUC, CITU, and AITUC.
The trade unions had held a meeting at Pooppara on Tuesday in the wake of the fresh stir. The meeting has decided to take out protest marches and meetings in support of the stir.
