HC verdict setback for UDF govt: Achuthanandan

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V.S Achuthanandan Thursday said the High Court verdict on the local body election was a setback for the UDF government.

“The government was trying to extend to the dates of the local body election under the pressure from the IUML. With the court rejecting the government’s plea, their plan has been dismantled,” the CPI(M) veteran said.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, however, said the verdict was not a setback for the government.

“The government will take further steps after consulting the state Election Commission,” he said.
