Coimbatore: A 70-year-old man from Kerala was arrested today on charges of inflicting knife injuries on a ticket examiner in a running train.
Suresh was checking tickets in the reserved compartment of Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Express when he noticed a man travelling on a general ticket as the train reached suburban Ettimadai Station, around 1.30 am, police said.
When Suresh asked the man to either pay the difference in the fare or travel in the general compartment, he suddenly whipped out a knife and inflicted injuries on the examiner's hand.
Police said the injuries were not serious.
Some passengers overpowered the man, identified as Sudhakaran hailing from Thiruvananthapuram.
He was later handed over to waiting police at the railway station here, police said.
