Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Sunday said the local body election should be conducted in October.

“The government is trying to delay the election to the local bodies indefinitely,” Kodiyeri alleged.

“Model code of conduct for the election should be issued at the earliest. The LDF will attend the all-party meeting convened by the state election commission tomorrow,” he said.

The State Election Commission has convened an all-party meeting on Monday to discuss issues relating to the conduct of polls.

The HC had on Thursday ruled that the State Election Commission can decide on how and when to conduct the local body polls.

The state government had informed the High Court that it would be ideal to conduct polls in the last week of November so that newly elected administrative councils could assume charge on December 1.
