Coimbatore: Chief Minister Oomen Chandy Sunday night said there was no dispute between his state and Tamil Nadu over sharing the waters of Mullaiperiyar.

"There is no dispute with regard to Mullaperiyar dam and we will release water as required. We want to have a cordial relationship with Tamil Nadu" Chandy told reporters here tonight.

Even if a new dam is built across, we will continue to give normal quantity of water and there will be no reduction of water, since Tamil Nadu required water for five districts, he said.

"We are concerned about the safety of the people and area, as the dam is 117 years old," he said.

On the remarks by Tamil Nadu Agriculture minister, Vaithilingam that cardamom from Kerala has more pesticide, Chandy sad that there was nothing like that.

Chandy was here to participate in the Onam Celebrations organised by Kairali Cultural Association.
