Kasaragod: The police have decided to extend the probe into the heist at Kudlu Cooperative bank to Karnataka.

The probe team has concluded that the burglars would have received help from some local residents and that they might have fled to Mangalore.

In a daring daylight robbery, a group of five masked men decamped with nearly 21 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 12 lakh in cash from a co-operative bank branch at Kudalu in the district Monday.

Five persons covering their faces, barged into the bank in the afternoon, threatened the some staff and a customer present there and robbed the bank of gold weighing nearly 21kg and cash of about Rs 12 lakh, police said quoting the complaint of the bank.

The incident occurred when other staff members had gone for lunch. Only two temporary women staff and a customer were in the bank when the incident happened.

The robbers escaped in motorcycles after taking gold kept in bank lockers and cash.

One of the temporary woman staff who resisted the robbers was injured and was admitted to a hospital.
