Kollam: Kollam District Collector Shainamol Monday said the firework tragedy at Paravoor was occurred due to lapse on the part of the police.

“I had denied permission for the fireworks display. Then, how the police could give nod for it,” Shainamol asked.

She also said she had denied the permission for the fireworks display based on a report submitted by the police on April 6.

"The report submitted by the police on April 6 had made it clear that permission should not be given to hold fireworks display due to space constraint. Hence, I denied permission for the fireworks display,” she said.

“After two days, they submitted yet another report saying that there was nothing wrong in granting permission for the fireworks display. As I did not know how things changes within two days, I stuck to my stand and did not give permission for the fireworks display,” said Shainamol.

“I have asked the police for an explanation on how they changed the report,” she added.
