Thrissur: A police officer, who allegedly beat up a security guard at the Guruvayur temple, was suspended from the service.

Ranjith, the civil police officer belonging to the Palakkad AR camp, was suspended from the service in connection with the incident.

On Friday, the famed Lord Krishna Temple at Guruvayur witnessed a minor scuffle as a security guard was allegedly beaten up by a policeman.

The incident occurred when the police official, who was not in uniform, tried to enter the 'annadanam hall' (temple dining area), jumping the queue, temple sources said.

During the scuffle, the temple employee, who tried to prevent him, was allegedly beaten up by the policeman.

The guard was later taken to a hospital, they said.

Meanwhile, police said they had taken the statements from both the parties and a case was registered in this regard.
