Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) veteran V.S Achuthanandan has said the people want him to become the chief minister after the May 16 Assembly polls.

“People want me to become the chief minister,” Achuthanandan said in an interview to The Indian Express, adding that “everything has to be decided by the party leadership and the LDF.”

Achuthanandan, however, later said that he did not say so in the interview to the national daily.

“This is an utter nonsense. What I had said that the party leadership would decide the CM candidate. What your friends did was a media roguery,” he said.

Stating that there are differences of opinion about certain candidates, the CPI(M) leader has also said the list of LDF candidates for the Assembly election is not perfect.

“Those who have reposed faith in LDF have pointed out lapses in selecting the candidates. Such issues will be discussed after the elections,” he said.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said he will comment on VS ‘s remarks after reviewing the interview in detail.

“There are no flaws in the selection of LDF candidates for the Assembly polls,” he added.
