Thiruvananthapuram: With mercury soaring, Kerala recorded its highest temperature of 41.9 degrees Celsius in 29 years at Malampuzha in Palakkad district Tuesday.

Indian Meteorological Department sources here said on April 15, 1987, the state had recorded 41.8 degrees Celsius.

Thiruvananthapuram airport recorded the lowest at 34 degrees Celsius Tuesday.

Giving some relief from the scorching heat, few places in the state received summer showers.

Dry weather prevailed over Lakshadweep, sources said.

The temperatures were above normal in Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Kannur, Ernakulam and Kottayam districts.

Several areas have reported drinking water shortage.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has decided to convene a meeting to evaluate the issues related to drinking water scarcity on April 28.

Ministers of Finance, Revenue and Irrigation, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretaries and Water Authority officials would attend the meeting, an official release said here.
