Won’t reopen closed bars in Kerala if voted to power: Sitaram Yechuri

New Delhi: CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechuri Friday has said the LDF will not take any step to reopen the closed liquor bars if it comes to power in Kerala after the Assembly election.

“There won’t be any change in the liquor policy if we come to power. Our aim is to bring down the liquor consumption. The controversies over it are unwanted,” Yechuri told reporters in Delhi.

On Wednesday, CPI(M) politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan had said that the complete liquor ban was an impractical policy.

CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had also said that the Left, if came to power, would reexamine the liquor policy adopted by the UDF.

CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran had also voiced the same concern earlier.
