Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday came down heavily on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan saying the state has become a haven for thieves and burglars under his rule.

“What we have now is a DGP who seeks pardon from people and a Chief Minister who criticizes the police force. The state has turned a haven for thieves,” Chennithala said while addressing a gathering here.

Chennithala said that if the police force is seen to be undisciplined, it is the duty of Vijayan as Home Minister to take corrective steps. But Vijayan is admitting failure when it comes to this. A responsible Home Minister will take action against erring police officers instead of blaming the entire force, he said.

The Congress leader added under the Pinarayi government, even the Romanians choose Kerala for burglary.

Taking a jibe at the appointment of V S Achuthanandan as chairman of the fourth Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission with Cabinet rank, Chennithala said, “those who came with the slogan that everything will be solved were able to only solve the issue of V.S. Achuthanandan,”
