Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police on Tuesday flagged off five patrol vehicles in its drive to ensure women's safety and launched a special phone service wherein women can dial 1515 to seek police help in case of emergency/crime against women.

Three of the vehicles have been deployed in Thiruvananthapuram and two in Kochi.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his wife Kamala Vijayan launched the 'Pink Police Patrol' service in the state capital.

Additional Director General of Police R. Sreelekha said each of the five vehicles will be manned by women police officers.

Every time the number 1515 is dialled, the call will be forwarded to the nearest patrol vehicle for response.

"The service would soon be extended to Kozhikode and other parts of the state," said Sreelekha.
