11 get life term in Vadakkekad Shameer murder case

Thrissur: The Thrissur First Additional Sessions Court Saturday sentenced 11 persons to life imprisonment in the Vadakkekad Shameer murder case.
Thiruvalayannur Unnikrishnan (37), Valiyavalappil Suresh (29), Urukulangara Chandran (39), Vattathurveettil Babu (37), Pattathayil Sunil (36), Kuliyatt Sajayan (30), Pattathayil Abhilash (35), Machingal Anilkumar (39), Edakkad Ranjit (32), Kolangattil Vijayan (34), Thykattil Shrimod (33) and Kottarappaattil Sudhakaran (42) were sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.
The second accused died during trial while the thirteenth accused was let off by the court for want of evidence.
Shameer (21) was attacked at night by the accused during the Makara Chowa festival at the Manikandeswaram Palakkal Bhagavathy Temple. Even though he ran away and took shelter in bathroom of house near the temple, he was dragged out and hacked to death by the accused in the premises of the house.
