Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the oil pricing policy had provided windfall gains to corporates and burden to common man in the country.

Chandy in a letter to Modi said "with the current policy, I would like to reiterate that it is the corporates who are having a last lauch at the expense of 133 core population of this country".

Stating that there was no justification for the recent hike in prices of diesel and petrol, Chandy said when the whole economy has come to a grinding halt owing to demonetisation, it would have been an ideal gesture if prices of petrol and diesel was fixed matching to the ruling international market prices.

Attacking the NDA government, he said production cost of petrol was as low as Rs 23.77 now. Taking into account of the various state and central taxes, the oil companies expenses and profits, the government would be able to sell petrol at Rs 45 per litre and diesel at Rs 40 per litre.
