Main accused in Vakkom incident arrested

Thiruvananthapuram: The main accused was Tuesday arrested by the police in the Vakkom incident in which a man was beaten to death in broad daylight.

Vinayak, a Vakkom native, was arrested by the police.

The incident happened on Sunday when the victim, 23-year-old Shabeer, was going on a motorcycle with his friend riding pillion. He was suddenly stopped by four people who began thrashing the duo mercilessly with sticks.

Shabeer left his motorcycle and started running but was chased by three of the men who pushed him down on the road and kept beating him with sticks. The seriously injured youth was abandoned on the road.

Though local people rushed Shabeer to the medical college hospital, his life could not be saved.
