Kochi: In a bid to create a world record for the longest flute marathon, a 48-year-old artiste from Kerala played the instrument continuously for over 27 hours.

Murali Narayanan from Thalikkulam in Thrissur district attempted to break the official record for longest flute marathon set by Katherine Brookes of United Kingdom in February, 2012

Brooke had played the flute for 25 hours and 48 minutes to achieve the record

Nattika MLA Geetha Gopi, who attended the event, claimed that Murali set the record for the longest flute marathon by an individual by playing it for 27 hours 20 minutes and 50 seconds

While Brookes set the record only in western music, Murali, who started his feat in the morning on January 9, played Carnatic, Hindustani, western and folk music before concluding at 11.55 a.m Sunday.

The programme, held at a Government High School ground in Thalikkulam, was attended by several dignitaries including T N Prathapan, MLA, Soorya Krishnamoorthy, Chairman of Sangeetha Nataka Academy, Guinness representative Sunil Joseph.

Murali was felicitated at a programme organised at the venue for his achievement.
