Kozhikode: The media persons were barred from covering the proceedings at the district court in Kozhikode on Saturday.

When the reporters questioned the police’s stance, Binuraj of Asianet News and cameraman Abhilash and Anoop, who had gone to the court to cover the ice cream parlour case, were taken into custody from the court premises and released later following the protests.

The police said the journalists were denied entry in the court based on the district judge's orders.

Meanwhile, Kozhikode North Assistant Commissioner Raju said that case would not be registered against the journalists. He added that a probe would be conducted against the sub inspector if a complaint was received.

DGP Loknath Behra said that the police was obeying the court's orders.

The DGP said the City commissioner has been asked to submit a report on the incident.

Reacting to the incident, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala called for stringent action against police officials for targeting the media.

Chennithala said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's ominous silence on the issue is disturbing.
