Kannur: Kannur Corporation Deputy Mayor C. Sameer has resigned ahead of a planned non-confidence motion by the LDF in the council meeting.

The LDF members in the council had served the notice for moving a no-confidence motion against Deputy Mayor C. Sameer, who is an IUML member.

The CPI(M) had reached a consensus on allocating Deputy Mayor post to Congress rebel P.K Ragesh, who had voted in favour of the LDF in the election to the Mayor’s post. He had stayed away from the election of the Deputy Mayor. Thus, C. Sameer was elected as the Deputy Mayor in a draw of lots.

The Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front are equally poised with 27 members in the 55-member council.
