Thalassery: The remarks of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the arrest of Dalit sisters, daughters of a local Congress leader, for allegedly attacking a CPI(M) activist here has kicked up a row with the Congress calling it shameful.

Asked about the incident, the Chief Minister had said that the question should be asked to the police who handled the case.

Criticizing the CM’s remarks, KPCC President V M Sudheeran said he was shocked to hear that from the person who rules the state.

“If such questions are to be asked just to the police, why do we need a Chief Minister? Why a Home Minister? Let the police rule the state. When criminal gangs go berserk in a state, its Chief Minister cannot pretend he doesn’t know anything. That’s wrong,” Sudheeran said.

The arrest of two Dalit sisters, Akhila (30) and Anjana (25), daughters of Indian National Trade Union Congress leader N Rajan, has kicked up a row in Kerala with Congress and BJP attacking the LDF government over the issue.
