Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI (M) has convened its state secretariat meeting on Friday to take a decision on the candidature of Pinarayi Vijayan and V.S Achuthanandan for the Assembly election.

According to sources, the CPI (M) politburo has directed the state leadership to field both Pinarayi Vijayan and Opposition leader V.S Achuthanandan in the election. The party’s central committee has given its approval for the decision.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechuri and Prakash Karat will attend tomorrow’s party secretariat.

After the secretariat taking a decision on it, the state committee will discuss the matter on March 13. A final decision on the list of candidates will be taken only after discussing the matter in the district committees.

The party central leadership was of the stand that if Achuthanandan was denied ticket in the election, it would turn out to be a setback for the party. They have reportedly reached a decision that Vijayan should take over as chief minister, if the Left Front wins the polls.
