Malappuram: Two persons, including a woman were killed when a sand laden tipper lorry ploughed into a crowd of devotees at a temple festival in Edappal here today, police said.

Ammu (55) was killed on the spot while her relative Bineesh (22) died while being rushed to a hospital, police said.

The accident occurred when the driver of the lorry accelerated on seeing police a short distance away and rammed into the crowd around 4.30 a.m.

The lorry driver has been arrested, they added.
