Thiruvananthapuram: The additional district court Friday rejected Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s defamation suit against Opposition leader V.S Achuthanandan.

Judge A Badarudheen, while considering the case, also said the opposition leader’s public statements cannot be curbed.

Achuthanandan’s counsel told the court that Chandy was accusing VS of making statements that he had never made.

“If the court were to make any ruling against the CPI(M) leader, it will affect his prospect in the upcoming election,” he said.

Chandy has sued Mr. Achuthanandan for tarnishing his name and the image of the Cabinet by allegedly making false accusations.

He stated that the Opposition leader had also falsely claimed that there were a total of 136 criminal cases pending against members of his cabinet.
