Kannur: One person was killed and five others were injured on Thursday when bombs were hurled at a Left Democratic Front (LDF) victory rally in Dharmadam, which elected Marxist leader Pinarayi Vijayan to the state assembly.

In a similar incident, another CPI-M victory rally was attacked in Kanhangad, injuring the newly elected legislator and a senior leader.

The CPI-M, in a statement, said, "ssimilar attacks are being reported from Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram districts."

It said that in Nemom constituency, which elected BJP leader O. Rajagopal to the legislature, former MLA and CPI-M candidate Sivankutty's office was attacked.

The party accused the RSS being behind the incidents and denounced the "murderous attacks” following the BJP's defeat in the state.

It also demanded that the attackers must immediately be brought to book.
