Thiruvananthapuram: A consensus has been reached among the UDF leaders to choose former Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala as the Opposition leader of the State Assembly.

The decision was taken in an interim discussion held among KPCC President V M Sudheeran, Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala.

Chandy would continue to hold the post of UDF Chairman.

The decision will be announced officially at the meeting of newly-elected MLAs, to be held on Sunday.

Congress leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will participate in the meeting as a high command representative.

AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik and Secretary Deepak Babaria also will attend the crucial meeting.
