Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the state Police scrambles to solve the brutal rape and murder of 27-year-old Jisha, a poor law student, near Ernakulam town, four new cases of sexual assault were registered in different parts of the state on Wednesday.

Varkala police has taken into custody three men for sexually exploiting a 20-year-old nursing student.

According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday when the student was raped by her lover and his friend at an isolated place in Varkala, in Thiruvananthapuram district. Later, another friend of her lover was called.

Unable to bear the torture, the young girl student shouted for help and some passersby rescued her.

The girl, admitted in the state-run SAT hospital here, is in the intensive care unit. Doctors said she was recovering.

Police have arrested three people and are probing if any others were involved. A magistrate will take the girl's statement later Wednesday.

In another incident, Manoj, an auto driver, was arrested after he tried to force himself on a 13-year-old girl. The girl was his friend's daughter.

In yet another case, a 17-year-old girl, brought from a rescue home in Palakkad on Tuesday night to the Nirbhaya Home here, was found hanging in the toilet on Wednesday morning.

She was rushed to the Medical College hospital, but was declared as brought dead. Police have registered a case of unnatural death.

In a fourth case that surfaced Wednesday morning, a 65-year-old was raped at her home on the outskirts of the capital city. She is now admitted to a hospital and is being closely monitored.
