Sabarimala shrine officially named Sree Ayyappa Swamy Temple

Sabarimala: Travancore Devaswom Board has issued an order stating that the famous Sabarimala temple will henceforth be called Sree Ayyappa Swamy Temple.

The temple’s name on records had been Sabarimala Sri Dharmasastha Temple.

Mythology says that Sabarimala is the place where Lord Ayyapa meditated and became one with Lord Sastha soon after killing the powerful demon, Mahishi. Thus, the Dharmasastha Temple in Sabarimala became Sree Ayyappa Swamy temple. The latest order from the Devaswom Board is in view of this.

Sabarimala temple attracts millions of devotees every year from all over the country and abroad.
