Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Friday alleged that Tamil Nadu was not releasing the share of water entitled to the state as per the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP).

Replying to a submission on the matter in the assembly, he said Kerala is entitled for 12.3 TMC water every year from the Chalakudy water basin, part of which is in Tamil Nadu, "but we are not getting the full amount".

He said necessary steps to ensure that the state gets its share of water under the PAP would be taken.

Initiatives had also been taken to restart talks to review the PAP pact and Tamil Nadu had reacted favourably to it, Vijayan said.

He said government wanted to resolve the inter-state water dispute through talks while at the same time protecting the states interests.
