Thiruvananthapuram: Marxist veteran and Chairman of Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission V S Achuthanandan was Monday allotted a room at the Assembly complex after he expressed displeasure over lack of facilities offered to him there.

The room was granted by Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan after the nonagenarian leader sent him a letter in the morning detailing his complaints.

The Speaker's office here said a decision in principle was taken to allot the room as per Achuthanandans request and that some more proceedings had to be completed in this regard. As of now, the room would be in the third floor of the sprawling, multi-storey Assembly complex, office sources added.

In the letter, Achuthanandan had said no special room had so far been granted to him at the complex though he was a senior member of the House with cabinet rank.

Though Ministers and the Opposition leader enjoyed special rooms and other amenities at the Assembly complex, he was not offered any of that, it said. The letter also said though it was brought to the notice of the authorities concerned before also, no action was taken in this regard.

Achuthanandan recently came out against the Pinarayi Vijayan governments decision to allot his office as ARC Chairman at IMG building and wanted the office space at the Secretariat main building.

But the government did not accept his demand.
