Kozhikode: Union minister CR Choudhary Saturday said the Kerala government had to deal with the issue of encroachments in Munnar in Idukki district and the Centre could not interfere in it.

Talking to reporters here, the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said, "The Centre cannot interfere in the matter directly as it is a state subject."

Choudhary, who visited the popular tourist spot on April 8, said he would apprise Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh of whatever he had seen at Munnar.

"I will submit a report to them," Choudhary, who was here to attend a function organised by the BJPs fishermens wing, said.

Meanwhile, Kerala Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan said his department would proceed with the clearing of encroachments in Munnar.

It was a decision taken yesterday at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and attended by all the state ministers and revenue officials, Chandrasekharan told reporters at Kasargod.
