New Delhi: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought the response of Delhi Police Commissioner and the Superintendent of RML Hospital here on the allegations of their 'unethical and inhuman approach' following the death of Muslim League leader E Ahamed.

The NHRC observed that the act of the hospital authorities of not allowing Ahamed's children to see him was a serious matter. It has also sought an explanation on the accusation that the hospital officials concealed information about the veteran leader's death.

The Delhi Police Commissioner and the Superintendent of RML Hospital have been given four weeks to file their response.

Ahamed, a former Union Minister, was declared dead at RML Hospital hours before Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the union budget in Parliament on February 1.

The Opposition had said that Ahamed died a day earlier, but the Modi government kept the news under wraps to ensure that the budget presentation was not disrupted.

“Ahamed was unnecessarily kept on life support when he had already expired. They wanted to hide this fact, they hushed up his death,” Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge told the media adding "That is why we are demanding a Parliamentary Committee to be formed to probe the matter."
