Kozhikode: CPI-M veteran and former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan Thursday demanded immediate arrest of culprits involved in abetment to suicide of an engineering student in Thrissur district last month.

Talking to reporters at Nadapuram in the district after visiting the parents of the student Jishnu Pranoy, he said the accused involved in the abetment of the student’s suicide should be arrested immediately.

“Circumstantial evidences suggest the involvement of certain members of the management in the case. Contrary to assurances, no arrests have been made so far. If the accused are taken into custody, more details would come out”, he said.

Chairmana of the Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission also spent about 15 minutes at Jishnu’s house and spoke to his parents.

They submitted a letter demanding arrests of the accused.

Jishnu Pranoy (18), a first-year student at the Nehru College of Engineering, in Pampady in Thrissur district, was found hanging in the bathroom of the hostel lastmonth after the college authorities allegedly harassed him after he was allegedly caught copying in an examination.

The incident had triggered a series of protests across against managements of self financing colleges.
