Kochi: Attacking the BJP-led central government, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury Sunday alleged minorities and people belonging to the Scheduled Castes were being targeted by the Sangh Parivar outfits under the watch of the Narendra Modi government.

"Yesterday (Saturday) the Prime Minister, speaking at a rally in Uttar Pradesh where elections are going on, said the BJP and RSS are in a big struggle against what he called the SCAM.

"...If the Prime Minister is saying that he is fighting the SCAM, the RSS and the BJP are fighting the SCAM -- Scheduled Castes and Minorities -- in our country," he told a rally organised by the DYFI here as part of its national conference.

Modi had Saturday said the election in Uttar Pradesh was BJPs fight against scam; S for Samajwadi, C for Cong, A for Akhilesh, M for Mayawati.

Referring to the incidents of attack against Dalits and minorities in the country after the Modi government assumed office, Yechury alleged that the BJP government was completely against the Dalits and minorities.

The senior Rajya Sabha member also found fault with the Union Budget 2017-18 presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, saying miseries of demonetisation would redouble with "miseries" of this budget.

"Because of the demonetisation, the economy has shrunk. Instead of expanding, this budget has reduced the size of the budgetary action," the CPI(M) leader said.

Yechury said Modis demonetisation exercise was a failure.

"Black money has become white. Counterfeit currency has become legal. Corruption is doubled. Nothing has been solved," he said.
