Doha: Islamic preacher M.M Akbar Wednesday termed the media reports of him going into hide as baseless, saying that he did not escape to Qatar fearing arrest.

“I came to Qatar for my routine job,” Akbar, who holds Qatar’s working visa, told Media One TV in Doha, adding that “it was not an escape fearing arrest as the media had reported.”

“The media reports came at a time when I was actively taking part in various programmes in Qatar and UAE. I had come to Kerala twice to appear for interrogation regarding the raids at Peace Schools,” he said.

“They are trying to spread Islamophobia through those kinds of campaigns. The Muslim community should stand together to fight those challenges,” said Akbar, Director of Niche of Truth and Managing Director of Peace International Schools.

Akbar also urged the youth to stay away from all kinds of extremism.
