Kochi: Expressing concern over rising incidents of cyber crime in the country, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Sunday emphasised the need for educating students about safer use of information technology.

"Increased incidents of cyber crimes in the country are a matter of concern. Although there is a law to tackle the cyber crimes, such incidents are on a rise," he said here.

Inaugurating "E-Jagratha", a programme to create awareness among teachers and students about the safer use of internet, he said the unprecendented progress made in the field of IT should be used for betterment of mankind.

"Parents should pay special attention while children use internet. Children should be encouraged to keep the internet-conncected computer in open space and use it for good purpose," the Chief Minister said.

Vijayan said the Government-run schools in the state would be made hi-tech.

Government schools will be modernised by connecting them with e-libraries and computer networks, he said adding 1,000 government-run schools were being developed on par with international standards.

The Ernakulam district administration is implementing the "E-Jagratha programme" in cooperation with TATA Consultancy Services.
