Thrissur: A march taken out by students of a private engineering college near here protesting the 'suicide' of one of their collegemates turned violent as a section of them damaged college property.

The students of the college at Pampady were agitating over the death of 18-year old Jishnu, a computer science student, who was found hanging in the hostel bathroom last week.

Alleging that college authorities had harassed him after he was caught for 'copying' in an examination, Jishnu's friends took out a protest march.

A section of the students went on a ramapage in the college campus, damaging properties, police said.

Meanwhile, state Education Minister C Raveendranath has directed the Kerala Technological University authorities to seek a report from the college authorities on the incident, officials said in Thiruvananthapuram.
