Kochi: Two persons have been taken into custody in connection with the mysterious death of 18-year-old Mishel Shaji, whose body was found in the backwaters near Ernakulam wharf last week.

Police sources said both the persons are being questioned.

The police summoned one of the persons from Chattisgarh to Ernakulam Central police station for questioning. The probing team had found out that the person frequently contacted the girl over phone and threatened her. He had also phoned Mishel the day she died.

Her relatives had ruled out the possibility of her committing suicide.

Police said the girl, who went missing last Sunday, was found dead in the backwaters, the next day.

CCTV visuals recovered from a Church at Kaloor in the city showed the girl from Piravom coming out and reaching the main road after prayers last Sunday, police said. The footage also shows two men on a motorbike following Mishel.

The girl, pursuing her CA, was staying at a hostel in Ernakulam for her studies.
