Irom Sharmila, the iron lady of Manipur, visited the head office of Madhyamam Daily in Kozhikode today.

Irom, who reached Kerala after the recent Manipur elections, received a warm welcome at the office. One of her party candidates and close aide Najima Bibi also accompanied her. Irom said that she felt proud about the beauty of the state as well as the increased awareness of the people about human rights.

While interacting with the staff, she said that the people in Kerala could not imagine the human rights violations experienced by the people in Manipur. Irom praised the high literacy, the hospitality and food of Kerala and also shared her happiness in seeing a beach for the first time.

Madhyamam-Media One group editor O AbduRahman, Associate Editor Dr Yasin Ashraf, Executive Editor V M Ibrahim, Deputy Editor Kassim Irikoor and Editorial Relations Director P K Parakkadavu were present at the function.

Sources close to the activist said that she will be spending around a month in Attappadi, one of the largest tribal settlements of Kerala. Irom had earlier said that she would continue her fight for human rights and protecting of democratic values.
