Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will get a representation in the Modi cabinet during the next reshuffle, a party leader said on Friday.

The source said Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah was determined to see the party open its account in the 2019 general election from the state.

BJP veteran O. Rajagopal became the first party leader to get elected to the Kerala assembly in 2016.

“The BJP leadership has agreed to give Kerala representation in the union cabinet,” said the source who did not wish to be identified by name.

Kerala has 20 Lok Sabha and nine Rajya Sabha seats.

Rajya Sabha members Suresh Gopi and Rajiv Chandrasekher, a Malayalee elected from Karnataka, are said to be in race for a cabinet berth.
