Jishnu’s mother moves SC seeking cancellation of Krishnadas’ bail

New Delhi: Mother of Jishnu Pranoy, Mahija has moved the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Chairman of Nehru group of institutions P Krishnadas by the High Court in a case of alleged suicide of her son.

In a plea filed in the court on Friday, Mahija has saught the intervention of the apex court to curb the torture-room culture of self financing colleges. “Self financing colleges are like prisons where the lives of the students are threatened. That situation should change. The court should take steps to make sure that no other student meets the fate of Jishnu,” she says in the plea.

Mahija has sought cancellation of Krishnadas’ bail stating that he, being a powerful person, might influence the witnesses in the case.

The court will consider the plea on March 27 along with a similar plea filed by the State government.

In a major setback for the state police, the HC had earlier in the month granted anticipatory bail to Krishnadas, the first accused in the case. The court held there was no sufficient evidence to invoke Section-107 and 306(abetment of suicide) of the IPC against Krishnadas.

Jishnu was a first year student of Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre, Pampady, an institution under the Trust. His body was found hanging in the hostel bathroom in January.

The college students had alleged the authorities had harassed Jishnu for resorting to “cheating” in an examination.
