Sexual abuse cases against children are on a rise in Kerala with 589 children raped in June alone this year.

This takes the number to a minimum of 19 child abuse incidents daily. There has been a shocking rise in the number of such cases in the state in the last 10 years.

The number of children abused was 215 in 2008 while it was 1101 in 2017. The number of cases registered till October this year were 999.

While cases involving kidnapping and murders are on a decline, rape cases are rising clearly giving an alarming sign.

According to reports, women are mostly subjected to domestic violence by husband and relatives. In the total number of cases in the last 10 years, rape cases came to 15 per cent.

14,254 cases of violence against women were registered in 2017, in which 1987 are rapes while there were 1645 reports of rape in the 11,302 cases registered until October this year.
