Govt trying to make caste divide in Kerala: NSS

Kottayam: Nair Service Society on Sunday alleged that the government was trying to reinstate a caste divide in the state.

NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair came down on the meeting of progressive social and community outfits convened by the government.

He said that the meeting was organized in the name of renaissance as the government failed to impose its one-sided decisions at the all-party meeting earlier.

Differentiating as ‘Savarna’ and ‘avarna’ would eventually lead to a caste-based divide in society, he said.

“Anybody can see there were clear political motives behind the government move to resolve the Sabarimala issue by triggering a caste-based divide,” the Indian Express quoted Sukumaran Nair a saying.

He also added that stalwarts of renaissance helped clean society of discrimination and superstation.

The NSS general secretary wondered about the connection between renaissance and young women’s entry into sabarimala and said that young women’s entry is based on rituals and faith in God.
