Kerala to say no to plastic bottled water
text_fieldsKottayam: Kerala is all set to ban the sale of plastic bottled water in five star hotels and resorts in the New Year.
The state pollution control board has issued notice directing businesses to sell water only in glass bottles.
The restriction would be imposed on hospitals with more than 500 beds, and houseboats.
The sale of single-use plastic products has been banned in recreation centres as well.
Both tourism department and local bodies have been served with the order.
For bottled water, reserve osmosis plants should be set up; glass bottle sterilization units should be arranged.
The ban is based on the Environment Protection Act. And breaching the order would lead to cancellation of permit, which would end on 31 this month.
Meanwhile, government is mulling over banning single-use plastic bottles, cups, and plates in the state.
