Kochi: Kerala High Court on Wednesday rejected a review petition filed by P.V. Anwar MLA seeking to quash an earlier order directing the economic offence wing of the Crime Branch to probe swindling a Malappuram native of Rs 50 lakh by promising shares of his granite quarrying firm. Ordering that the Crime Branch could go ahead with the investigation, the court said the review petition did not provide any reason for reviewing its earlier order.

According to the complaint filed by a person identified as Salim, a native of Eranad in Malappuram, Anwar took Rs 50 lakh from him promising shares of the quarrying company in Karnataka.

He allegedly showed him a 5-acre land and a crusher in Belthangady Taluk and offered to make him his business partner before accepting Rs 50 lakh.

Later on, Salim found that the details provided in the agreement were false and when he asked his money back, the ruling legislator refused. The KE Stone Crusher mentioned in the agreement was also proved to be a non-existing entity, the complainant stated.
