Hate campaigns against Malappuram police chief, cases registered
text_fieldsKozhikode: The Palakkad and Malappuram police have registered cases related to the social media hate campaign against Malappuram district police chief Prateesh Kumar, who is also the special officer at Sabarimala Sannidhanam.
Online users in Facebook as well as Twitter have been spreading hate campaign against the SP for dealing with the protesters in Sabarimala. The campaigns even targetted the SP's home town in Uttar Pradesh.
A case has been registered at the Palakkad north police station on Tuesday against a man, whose identity has been withheld.
However, the police confirmed that case was registered under IPC 153 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), as well as Kerala police Act 120 (O), (crimes committed through new media).
On the basis of the hate campaign through Twitter, the Malappuram police on Monday registered case against five people – those who posted the hate status against the officer as well those commented on it.
Case was registered under IPC 153 (1), 189 (threat of injury to a public servant), 506 (1) (criminal intimidation) and KP Act 120 (O). The identity of the accused has not been revealed.
