Thiruvanthapuram: JDS representative in LDF cabinet Mathew T Thomas resigned as water resources minister on Monday.

Chittur MLA K Krishnakutty will take over the position on Tuesday after the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan.

Mathew T Thomas, who is second time stepping down before completing the tenure, submitted resignation letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Cliff House.

Mathew Thomas said that his designation was unconditional and expressed satisfaction over the department’s performance during his tenure.

Later, Mathew Thomas had talks with minister-designate Krishnankutty at the Guest House.

When asked about the position of party state president, he said had held it previously and was not after positions in the party. Also, the central leadership would take decision on party‘s new state president, he said.

Meanwhile, reports say the out-going minister’s faction may well be pitching for the position of state president for Mathew Thamas.

However, Krishnakutty faction, reportedly, favours Neelalohithadasan Nadar as the state president.
