Kozhikode: “It is part of the party agenda” said a leaked video of BJP State president P.S Sreedharan Pillai’ s speech about the ongoing stir against Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all ages groups into Sabarimala temple.

He was addressing a gathering of the party’s youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha here on Sunday.

In the candid speech, Pillai said the Sabarimala agitation was planned and executed by the BJP.

“Our State general secretaries were positioned in different places and they executed our plans. It was one of the general secretaries of the BJYM who organised devotees against attempts by [Inspector General of Police] Sreejith to take two women to the hill temple.... We need to try our maximum to prevent women in the 10-50 age group to the temple,” the transcript of the tape carried by The Hindu said.

Pillai also revealed Kandararu Rajeevararu, the tantri of Sabarimala temple had discussed with him the plan to shut the sactum sactorum in the event of women of barred age group entering the temple.

He said the tantric got worried and called him when the two women were about to reach the hill shrine. Tantri asked him whether closing of the shrine’s door would be a violation of Supreme Court verdict and contempt of court. “ I told him that such a charge will not stand. If that happens, I will also be charged with the same offence. Thousands too will be with us” he assured the tantri.

He termed the Sabarimal agitation a “golden opportunity for the party.”

“...the Sabarimala issue is a puzzle, solving which is difficult. We set an agenda and everyone surrendered themselves before it. Those left behind ultimately will be ourselves and the ruling dispensation and their political formations,” He said.
