Kottayam: Home department has directed police to take stern action against those involved in the protest at Sabarimala when the temple opened for rituals days ago.

In the previous years, average 1000 people attended Chithira Atta Visesham ceremony. This time, nearly seven times as many turned up. Police would look into their backgrounds before going ahead with procedures.

Between 150 and 200 people have been booked in connection with the protests. More people would be booked after reviewing CCTV visuals.

Home department is going over an intelligence briefing that found majority of those present when the temple opened between November 5 and 6 were Sangh Pavarivar activists.

The report also found serious lapses in letting them in at Nilakal and Pampa. Most of them turned up only for protesting. They committed sweeping breach in rituals at the temple.
